The TransZeroWaste project is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming Slag Workshop organized by the ESTEP Focus Group Circular Economy and the FEhS Institute. This significant event will explore the role of slags and other by-products within the circular economy in the steel industry and will also feature insights from the RFCS InSGeP project.
Event Details:
Dates: Wednesday 5th – Thursday 6th March 2025
Location: Wyndham Duisburger Hof, Opernplatz 2, 47051 Duisburg, Germany
Workshop Scope:
The European Union’s Green Deal has set ambitious goals to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, positioning the steel industry as a critical player in this transition. A major focus area is improving resource efficiency and circular economy practices, particularly through the valorisation of steel by-products like slag, dusts, sludges, and mill scales.
Steel production generates large volumes of by-products, which, if not effectively managed, can pose environmental challenges. However, by treating these materials as valuable raw materials, the industry can significantly reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and contribute to EU decarbonization goals. The workshop will highlight innovative approaches to:
- Enhancing slag recycling and reuse in various applications
- Exploring new valorisation pathways for emerging by-products
- Addressing changes in by-product composition due to steel decarbonization efforts
- Aligning industrial practices with evolving EU sustainability regulations
TransZeroWaste’s Contribution:
At the workshop, TransZeroWaste will present the current status of its project, specifically tailored to address the interests of the participants.
Stay tuned for updates from the workshop!
