The 1st TransZeroWaste Scientific Workshop was successfully held in a hybrid format, bringing together partners and stakeholders from research, industry, and policy to discuss breakthrough technologies for sustainable steelmaking. With more than 50 registrants, the event highlighted scientific results, testing progress, and key insights from the TransZeroWaste (TZW) project to date, fostering meaningful dialogue across the steel value chain.
Participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of recent developments in the transformation of the iron and steel industry, innovative zero-waste approaches, and ongoing work related to sustainability assessment and decision-support tools. The workshop attracted researchers, industry professionals, policy makers, and members of the scientific community engaged in low-CO₂ and circular steelmaking.
The programme included focused presentations on:
- Transformation of the iron and steel industry – General overview (BFI & DILLINGER)
- TransZeroWaste: A Pathway to Sustainable Steelmaking (BFI)
- Pelletizing and briquetting – Key experimental insights (BFI)
- Microwave-assisted processes – Challenges and new findings (CEINNMAT & DILLINGER)
- Hydrometallurgical treatment for resource recovery (CELSA & BFI)
- Integration of sustainability indicators into a decision-support platform (LIST)
Each session was followed by Q&A, supporting interaction and exchange among participants. The workshop concluded with final remarks and informal networking.
